My wife charmed me into marriage, I
    want out! Man Tells Court

An High Court of Justics in Ondo has
been asked by a civil servant, Adeyemi
Jalugbo, 32, to dissolve his four-year-old
marriage which he claimed he was
forced into by the wife with a charm.
Jalugbo told the court that he had come
back to his senses and was not willing
to continue in such a marriage.
According to him, his wife Bukola, was
fetish and was not prepared to abandon
fetish acts. The petitioner said that
Bukola, 31, took him to a cleric shortly
after they met in 2008, for some
incantations aimed at luring him into the
union. In his words: “When we got
there, the cleric brought out two
wooden dolls – male and female… He
recited some incantations and asked me
to say that I will love Bukola, marry her
and listen to her forever. As I was saying
this, he was tying the two dolls together
    with a rope… ,” he
    said.
He then continues that since Bukola
moved into his house two months into
their courtship, he had been giving her
    anything she requested for, including
his ATM cards for withdrawal of huge
amounts of money. Bokola urged the court not to
dissolve the marriage because “I still
    loved him’’.
    Meanwhile, Court President, Mr Ajogbolojo
Eko, ordered the petitioner to give
Bukola N5,000 weekly for the upkeep of
the two children until judgment in the
case. Eko adjourned the case to Jan.24,

He directed that the venue for the launch of the programmes should be the newly commissioned General Yakubu Gowon permanent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp and Sports Complex, Dutse.
The presidential order was inspired by the peace and security that the president witnessed in the state during his two-day official visit penultimate week, a situation which made the number one citizen to commend Governor Sule Lamido and the entire people of the state for the development. Jonathan also expressed gratitude for the unity between the people of the state and the cordial relation between the government and traditional rulers. MOVEMENT IN ITAGUA (RJ)
In the public hospital of Itagua (RJ) in UK last weekend was born a girl with hands joined together, like one who's praying. The doctors told the parents that they would operate the hands of that girl and that they would give her antistatic. The operation was easy because it seemed like the hands were simply glued together by one membrane(skin),layer apart.
When they opened up the hands of the child, you can't imagine what was written... "JESUS IS COMING BACK..." The doctors started weeping and all that were in the hospital. The suburb of Itagua is undergoing a movement now. People that have withdrawn from church are going back and others are receiving Jesus christ as the only saviour.
God sent that child simply to convey his message. After a few hours, she died. Mission accomplished.

Politics of 2nd anniversary in Osun
There is no doubting the fact that November 26 of every year will remain significant in the life of Mr Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, the governor of Osun State. His mandate was restored via a court judgment, delivered on that date in 2010 at the Federal Court of Appeal, which sat in Ibadan, the political hub of the South-West.
The Nigerian Tribune’s investigations indicated that he may have succeeded in creating a distinct identity for his state, with the introduction of some schemes, apparently packaged to reposition some ministries and service delivery agencies of the government. These include O-Schools, OYES cadets, O- Trans, O-Meals, with the intent of ensuring qualitative service delivery and also engaging the army of jobless youths in the state. Addressing a quarterly press conference recently, the state deputy governor, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori said, “The programme has since impacted positively on school enrolment with an increase of about 38,000 pupils, representing 25 per cent increment within only four weeks of introduction.

Jalade-Ekeinde says about the programme to start on DSTV “Before now I thought people who got into reality TV shows were those who reached the end of their careers as entertainers. When the producers approached me, I thought perhaps my career was over. But they told me they had done a lot of research and found out that people wanted to know about me.’’

She adds, “If I sit down and tell you that I am confident about this I would be lying to you. I am very nervous about the show because everything about me is going to be in the public domain now. I cannot talk myself out of the show. As it is common with reality shows, you are going to see everything because already there are parts in the show when I forgot and just let some ugly aspects of my life show. If I tell the producers to edit those parts out, they would refuse and say they want everything to be as real as possible.

  37. ABIMBOLA ABOSEDE E. YRL/08/3002 YORUBA:' Scholes is the most talented player I played with' – Giggs picks Best XI of Manchester United teammates
The 39-year-old notes that the Red Devils' veteran 'could do things that no other player could do' as he selects himself in a Best XI made up of colleagues from his lengthy career
The Welshman also included Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney from his current teammates, as well as picking himself to play on the left flank.
"[Scholes] could do things that no other player could do," Giggs told Abu Dhabi Sports. "He would dictate the tempo of a game, hardly ever gives the ball away – whether it be a five-yard pass or a 30-yard pass."
Giggs, well into his 23rd season at Old Trafford and with more than 900 appearances for the club to his name, struggled to decide on a goalkeeper, eventually plumping for Peter Schmeichel over Edwin van der Sar "because Schmeichel was probably at his peak."
Cristiano Ronaldo, now of Real Madrid, also made the 39-year-old's team, with his huge volume of goals since his record-breaking transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu influencing his inclusion.
Giggs named Roy Keane as his captain.
"He would drive you on in every single game and he was the reason why we scored so many late goals," Giggs, who has won 33 trophies to date with the Red Devils, explained.
Gary Neville, Denis Irwin, and Eric Cantona were the former Wales international's other selections in an XI that covers the entirety of his spell in Sir Alex Ferguson's squad.

Rafa Benitez has confirmed that his captain will miss the FIFA Club World Cup with a knee injury, while his veteran midfielder has recovered from a calf injury.
"John Terry will not fly, because the doctor was talking with me, I was talking with John, and because maybe [with] an inflammation, to fly would not be the best solution for him so he will stay. Obviously he will not be [available] tomorrow and he will not go to Japan," Chelsea interim coach Rafa Benitez said.
Daniel Sturridge will also miss this weekend's bout, but the Blues did receive good news in the form of midfielder Frank Lampard passing a fitness test to face the Black Cats on Saturday. The England international has been out of action since suffering a recurrence of a calf injury in the 2-1 Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in October.
"We had three players injured before. [Daniel] Sturridge has been training but it's too early for him so he will not go to Sunderland. We will fly from Sunderland and see if we can do something for Japan. Frank Lampard has been training today, he's in the squad for Sunderland and he will fly if everything's fine to Japan too."
Chelsea will face either Ulsan Hyundai or Mexican power Monterrey in its Club World Cup semifinal on Dec. 13.

Los Rojiblancos are looking to bring back the 33-year-old forward after he featured for Morelia last season.
A day after sending attacker Omar Arellano to Monterrey and bringing in defender Sergio Perez, Chivas is in active transfer talks again, seeking to re-acquire forward Miguel Sabah.

Chivas is reportedly in discussions with Morelia to bring in the 33-year-old forward, whose contract with the Michoacán side has run out. Due to the Gentlemen’s Agreement, Morelia must nevertheless cede Sabah to any future Mexican employer.

Sabah debuted in the Mexican top flight for Chivas during the Invierno 2000 tournament, and has since gone on to play for Cruz Azul and Morelia, starring in Mexico for over a decade.

The striker has been capped 17 times by El Tri, scoring five international goals, including the winner in a 2-1 victory over the U.S. at Estadio El Azteca in World Cup Qualifying in 2009.

Sabah has indicated he would like to return to Guadalajara to close out his career, and was reportedly in negotiations with Atlas earlier this month. Chivas is in need of a patch in attack - the Guadalajara side will be without forward Rafael Marquez Lugo for the beginning of the Clausura 2013.

The two star players are yet to put pen to paper on new contracts in Glasgow, with a number of Premier League clubs said to be closely monitoring their situations ahead of January
    Dec 7, 2012 10:50:00 AM
Lennon is desperate to keep star duo Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper at Celtic and hopes his club’s progression to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages convinces them to stay.

The SPL champions have been locked in negotiations with the pair for several months now but as yet there has been no breakthrough despite a number of other key players committing their future to the Glasgow giants.

Powerful midfielder Wanyama has been heavily linked with Manchester United and Arsenal and is in the second season of a four-year deal he signed after joining the club in 2011. Hooper, who scored in the famous midweek win over Spartak Moscow, is reportedly interesting Liverpool, Sunderland and Southampton and has 18 months left to run on his contract.

Lennon says the fact his club have made it into the final 16 left in the Champions League is a selling point that cannot be offered by many other clubs and hopes that will play a part when talks with the two players continue.

"Why would they want to leave now when they have got something special to look forward to?" Lennon said at a press conference. "Not many clubs can offer that. Gary Hooper's representatives are coming up over the weekend. We are hoping we can finally get something done on a positive note. Hopefully - but there is no guarantee.

"With Victor Wanyama we will keep plugging away with his representatives as well and see if we can come to a conclusion that pleases everybody."

    N2.1 Billion Worth of Newly
    Printed N1,000 Notes Missing at
    the Nigerian Minting Company.
It is being reported that a whooping N2.1 billion of newly printed N1,000 notes has mysteriously gone missing from the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC). According to Leadership, members of the board of NSPMC met yesterday at a meeting chaired by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, over the scandal rocking the establishment. At the meeting, they decided to expand the investigation and audit the production of other currency denominations to ascertain the quantity of money that has actually gone missing over the years. Leadership further reported that the Chief Executive of the Mint Company Ehi Okomoyon , was asked to proceed on indefinite leave and an acting managing director, Ahmed Bamali, was appointed to head the Mint company. The suspension of Okoyomon as managing director is to last until all investigations have been concluded. Also, the head of security at the NSPMC, Emmanuel Bala, has also been asked to go on compulsory leave by the board of directors of the company. At the meeting, the board faulted the suspended MD for failing to disclose to it that such amounts of money had gone missing. The audit team had however, established that the theft of printed bank notes could be traced to security lapses and security personnel who take custody of newly printed bank notes, and when there were shortages, they were never reprimanded. It won’t be out of place to say that Nigerians are simply tired of hearing such news of theft and corruption by people who are supposed to be custodians of the nation’s resources. We only hope that tangible results are gotten from the audit and suspension of the principal officers. N2.1 billion cannot just disappear into thin air.

The Russian owner ambition's of winning the competition was achieved under the managerial duty of Roberto di Matteo who was appointed after the short tenure of Andre Villa Boas. The journey started with a game against Juventus fresh from winning the Serie A. Chelsea started the game on a good note scoring two goals but football game is decided after 90 mintues so, at the end Chelsea surrendered the two goals lead.
The group stage matches continued with mixed fortune for the European Champion which can be measured in terms of points gathered. The champion had 10 points bringing them on level term with another club from Ukraine which have better head-to-head advantage over the champion, causing the giant to be displaced. However, the footballing world awaits the next point of action by the Russian at the control of affairs at Chelsea.

    Parents Demand N2 Billion from
    Bishop David Oyedepo over
Child’s Death in School Run by
    Winners Chapel
The parents of late Miss Imienfan Omokaro, a four year- old who recently drowned at the Kingdom Heritage Model School, an arm of Winners Chapel in Benin, Edo State are demanding N2 billion as general damages from General Overseer of the church, David Oyedepo, within 14 days. In a letter dated November 28, 2012 by her father, Jolly Omokaro’s counsel, the amount demanded was “for the callous and senseless killing of our client’s daughter, Miss Imienfan Omokaro.” According to Daily Independent, Imienfan, a Kindergarten pupil of the school was reported drowned in a drum of water in a toilet in the school on November 1, 2012. Her parents were not informed of the incident until late in the day when her mother wanted to pick her from school. The school authority and Winners Chapel had reportedly prayed for the little girl before taking her
to Irowa Hospital in Benin, where medical personnel confirmed she was dead before she was brought in. According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the school authorities had kept the girl for over an hour praying for her, before finally taking her to the hospital. Mr. Omokaro’s lawyers want Kingdom Heritage Model School to tender unreserved apology in three national newspapers, warning that if the demands were not met within 14 days, “we have the irrevocable instructions of our client to commence legal action against the school (Kingdom Heritage Model School) and Church (Winners Chapel) without any further correspondence from this Chambers.” The events surrounding her death raises many questions which makes the anger of her parents easily understood. How did the little girl get into a drum of water and drown in it? Why should a four- year be allowed to go to the toilet unsupervised without an adult around? Why wasn’t she taken to the hospital immediately? Why were her parents not informed immediately of what had happened to
their child? Her death is indeed very sad and we pray that her
gentle soul will Rest In Peace. It also serves as a
wake-up call to school administrators and child
handlers to be extra vigilant with the young
    children put in their care.

Obasanjo visits Aregbesola, commissions Bola Ige’s bust
    On December 11, 2012 • In News
OSOGBO — Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday commissioned the bust of the late former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige erected at the front gate of the Osun State Governor’s Office, Osogbo.
The Governor’s Office named “Bola Ige House” was constructed and commissioned by the former governor of the state who is now the National Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria ACN, Chief Bisi Akande in 2003.
Chief Ige while serving as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice during Obasanjo administration was in December 2001 assassinated in his Bodija residence in Ibadan by yet to be identified gunmen.
Chief Obasanjo, who led the delegation of Owu Development Foundation to Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s office, told his host that “You have successfully ambushed me.
“You have flabbergasted me and if I may use the military term, you have successfully ambushed me because I never expected to meet this large number of people. I was only billed to brief you on the development in Owu,” Obasanjo said.
The former president told Governor Aregbesola that he was in government office over the selection process of the new traditional ruler of the town which has become a matter of litigation between the same family.
His word: “ When the situation that could cause disturbance to the selection of the new Oba, Owu Development Foundation made up of prominent members came to me that I should not allow things to go sour and what I equally found on ground is gradually drifting to an alarming situation.”
“I then formed a committee to consult and make contact with all the people involved in the chieftaincy matter so that no group or anybody is left out. I also found out that there were people who are dissatisfied with the selection process and need to be pacified where there are also people who only wanted recognition,

Soyinka blames collapse of cultural values on dictatorship
PORT HARCOURT—Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Monday, linked the collapse of cultural values in the country to the emergence of political dictatorship.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at a colloquium for this year’s Rivers State carnival, CANIRIV, Soyinka charged artists and intellectuals to do more to sustain the country’s cultural values.
He said any culture not thoroughly protected could be corrupted by a weak political system, adding that this could result to dictatorship.
He said: “Are there any lessons from all these? Before the advent of General Sani Abacha, many Nigerians were fond of saying ‘no it can never happen in Nigeria, the glorification of a human being, Nigeria has gone far beyond that, too critical to allow it.’ I am afraid we did witness an example of this.
“It just shows that one can never be too careful. One can never be too watchful because sooner or later, what begins as a small power issue becomes a grand, immovable, supreme entity through the collaboration of artists and intellectuals because it is they, who create the spectacles that glorify the individual rather than enhance the condition of the commune.”

Banks to lose millions as N100 ATM charges stop on Monday
Banks will on Monday December 17 stop charging members of public for the use of Automated Teller Machines, the Bankers' Committee has said, thereby making banks to lose hundreds of millions in revenue generated from such charges.

The committee agreed on Sunday that the decision earlier reached to suspend all charges accruing from the use of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of other banks would take effect that day.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Chairman of the Bankers' Committee, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi disclosed this while addressing journalists at the end of the fourth annual Bankers' Committee retreat held in Calabar, Cross River State.

The CBN governor said the delay in implementing the policy was to allow banks configure their information technology infrastructure for the effective implementation of the policy.

'We have agreed on a final date of Monday, 17 December, 2012 for the kick-off when every bank will remove the charges. We allowed some time for banks that have not configured their IT to do so and stop charging and hopefully by 17th of December, you are not going to have any customer pay additional charges,' he said.

Mr Sanusi further said that the CBN was working on a programme that would ensure that from June 1, next year, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) commences the process of divesting from the three nationalised banks - Keystone Bank Limited, Enterprise Bank Limited and Mainstreet Bank Limited - which are wholly owned by the corporation.

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the Minister of Petroleum, expects oil production to remain steady at between 2.4 million to 2.5 million barrels per day in 2013.

A major fire at a Shell facility, an Exxon spill and severe flooding cut oil output by up to a fifth in October and November, and caused lengthy delays to exports.

But Alison-Madueke told reporters during a meeting of the OPEC oil-producing countries in Vienna that production had since recovered and should remain at current levels.

"I expect it at least to stabilise (next year). The problems have been flooding and bunkering and some vandalism which have disrupted pipeline services," she said.

Alison-Madueke said Nigeria still hoped to hold a marginal oil licensing round by early next year. This would be the first since a bid round five years ago which failed to attract interest from foreign oil majors.

Several targets for bid rounds set by the oil ministry have not been met in recent years and uncertainty over a over-reaching energy bill being debated in parliament could deter potential investors, industry experts say.

OPEC oil ministers meet on Wednesday to discuss production and are widely expected to hold output limits steady despite forecasts for a fall in demand next year.

The expected increase in production of shale oil from the United States will be on the agenda and Alison-Madueke said it would have a "major impact" on demand for oil from countries like Nigeria, a key exporter to the U.S.

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — Nigerian police say kidnappers have abducted the finance minister's mother from her home in the West African nation's oil-rich delta.

National police spokesman Frank Mba told The Associated Press that Kamene Okonjo, mother of Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was kidnapped Sunday afternoon in Delta state.

He says "no stone would be left unturned" to secure her freedom.

Finance Ministry spokesman Paul Nwabuikwu said in a statement Sunday the minister had received threats in the past.

The abduction occurred in an oil-rich region where kidnappings that once affected mainly expatriate workers have increasingly targeted middle-class and elite Nigerian families.

The Mexican coach believes his side was simply outclassed after losing 3-1 to the reigning European champions in the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup.
    Dec 13, 2012 10:34:00 AM
Monterrey boss Victor Manuel Vucetich has admitted that Rafa Benitez's Chelsea was the better team and deserving of advancing after the Blues' 3-1 win in the FIFA Club World Cup semifinals in Japan on Thursday.
Goals from Juan Mata and Fernando Torres on top of an own goal from Darvin Chavez was enough to give the Blues' victory despite a late consolation from Aldo De Nigris, and the coach thought the Mexicans probably deserved the defeat.
"Tonight [Thursday], we did our best, but we had moments when we lacked focus, and to lose a game as we lost it today is regrettable," he told reporters. "Overall, Chelsea were better than us, but we had our moments where we played at the same level as the English team.
"We know that Chelsea is clearly much stronger than [first opponent] Ulsan, but as the game started we were too timid, after Chelsea's first goal we picked ourselves up little by little and got back into the game, but they were very good.
"In the second we conceded those early two goals and we could not react, we created some chances, but we could not really get ourselves back together. We could not show all we have.
"The European teams' level is the highest in the world today, their players are well paid, because they are the best, physically, technically and mentally."

  107. AJAYI KAYODE O.YOR/09/3013:YORUBA :Tim Ream remains committed to Bolton despite uncertain U.S. future
The United States international center back told Goal.com that he is committed to staying at Bolton and proving himself while discussing his future with the national team.
    Dec 12, 2012 7:00:00 AM
It's been almost a year since Tim Ream joined Bolton Wanderers in a $2.75 million move from the New York Red Bulls. In that period of time, things haven't exactly gone to plan.

A string of poor results have led to Bolton being relegated from the Premiership last season. This year isn't much better. The Wanderers sit in 18th place in the English Championship even though the team kept most of its players from the previous season. Furthermore, Ream's role has been uncertain with the club, as he has been in and out of the starting lineup and his position alternates between his natural center back position to playing defensive midfield.
Ream on U.S. national team struggles

“You play well and expectations start to rise and then you start to put higher expectations on yourself. I don't know if I was ready for that at such an early stage of my professional career.”

    - Tim Ream

Overwhelming to say the least, but in spite of all of those factors Ream remains committed to Bolton.

Ream is loyal to the team that gave him a chance in Europe and will not seek a move in January's transfer window. Instead, he hopes to prove his ability to Bolton and the team's fans.

"I'm not looking to make a move," Ream told Goal.com in a phone interview. "I've only been here for a year and I want to stay through my contract and help the team."

That choice does come with some risks.

Ream's professional career, not to mention his status with the United States national team, could be severely affected if Bolton suffers another relegation. Ream was once considered to be the future at the center-back position for the U.S. just two years ago but has fallen to Geoff Cameron, Omar Gonzalez and Maurice Edu in the depth chart. Despite Bolton's struggles, Ream insists that he has matured as a player as a result of dealing with adversity.
Ream admits that he wasn't initially ready to handle the pressures of being a full-time starter on the U.S. team, which is why he struggled in key moments for the Stars and Stripes both in the Gold Cup and later in a friendly against Ecuador. Although Ream was thrilled to be recognized at the time by Bob Bradley for his strong performances for the New York Red Bulls, he explains that the moment might have came too soon. Prior to his first cap with the national team, he never featured for the U.S. on any of its youth teams.

Revolution coaches Steve Nicol and Jay Heaps struggled to devise ways to use him effectively as the primary option and tired quickly of his antics. Feilhaber failed to produce any semblance of consistent form despite his ample natural skill and raised questions about whether he would buckle down during difficult periods.

It was, by and large, a frustrating spell for everyone involved.

“It had a lot of ups and downs,” Feilhaber said during a conference call on Tuesday. “It wasn't easy not winning as many games as we would have liked, as I would have liked. Losing is always a tough thing. I'm an extremely competitive person. Losing doesn't necessarily bring out the best in anybody, but I struggled with it. I didn't have a great season this year – points-wise, I probably had a better season the year before even though our team wasn't as good. But you take from it what you can, try to learn from it and try to prove [yourself] as a player and a person.”

That chance to learn from his mistakes needed to come somewhere else. New England declined Feilhaber's contractual option for 2013 in November – he made $446,000 in guaranteed compensation in 2012, per MLS Players Union documents, and would have carried a higher figure on the salary budget next season – and shopped Feilhaber around the league in search of a taker.

“We have had some conversations on and off with Kansas City over the past few months, as well as a couple of other teams that had expressed some interest,” Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a phone interview on Tuesday. “Kansas City expressed the most interest in acquiring him in a trade. We just felt, moving forward, that this was the best move for Benny and the best move for us. That's really what it came down to.”

Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes leaned on his experience with Feilhaber as an assistant with the U.S. U-20 side in 2005 and his glaring need for creative reinforcements to justify a dramatic move to reinforce his squad. He sent an undisclosed chunk of the allocation money earned by qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League and a couple of draft picks (a 2014 first-rounder and a 2015 second-rounder) to New England and struck a new deal with Feilhaber to secure his services for next season.

The exchange represented good value for the Revolution in this set of circumstances. Feilhaber wasn't returning to Foxborough anyways with Kalifa Cissé and Andy Dorman on board for next season, and the money and the picks provided a better-than-expected haul in return for his rights. It isn't a one-sided deal, certainly. While the assets may help a Revolution side still in need of additional reinforcements, the player benefits a Sporting side keenly focused on the present.

Goal.com seems to be a Real's and Mourinho's web page. How can somebody argue and question Messi's brilliance? There's no other in this world that played and plays football like him. Fortunately or not, I had occasion to see Maradona playing. He was an artist, but Messi is something else, I even cannot explain what. He's able to do everything you can only dream about football, while nobody could until now, even not Pele and Maradona

The Mexican international was released by the New York Red Bulls Thursday, putting an end to a tenure that was marked more by controversy and criticism than productivity on the field.

Thank god. I respect Rafa's past because he was a beast when he was in europe and his early days playing in Mexico. But his time with the MLS was horrible. I can honestly say he has been the worst designated player i have ever watched play, we MLS fans expected more from him but he failed to play at his level. And if he cant handel playing in the MLS, what makes him think he can play in Mexico? Im not hating or anything, but if anyone that watches MLS knows what im taking about.

Alexis Sanchez has the heaviest first touch on the planet. Messi set him up again, inside the box, and he flubbed it. Villa tends to flub his first touch as of late as well. Sanchez needs to be converted to a right back, it sounds nutty, but his work rate, ball winning and desire are amongst the world's best. He has no first touch. Convert him to wing-back and he all revolutionize the position. Do it. Or by this date next year he will be playing for Napoli or some team of such sorts.

  116. OLOMOFE JEPHTHAH O. YRL/08/3080. SOCCER NEWS:Lionel Messi, fresh off of breaking Gerd Muller's record for goals in a calender year, was the difference once again for the defending champion, scoring in either half to take his 2012 tally to 88 goals and put his side in pole position to advance to the quarterfinals ahead of its their Segunda Division opponent.

The Argentine opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game with a tap-in from close range and rounded off the win with his second goal 16 minutes from full time to end the resistance of Cordoba, which will be disappointed in the result after fashioning many chances in a fine attacking display.

Victor Valdes, Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta did not make the trip to Andalusia, as Jose Pinto, Thiago and Alex Song were chosen to start in their stead.

All the early momentum belonged to Cordoba, with a powerful drive from Fede forcing Pinto into an acrobatic save, before Sebastian Dubarbier crossed towards the far post, where Pedro drilled just wide.

But Barca would survive the early test of its character, and began to hit back at the other end of the pitch. Thiago crashed a 20-yard half volley off the frame of the goal, and with 11 minutes gone, the Catalans would make the breakthrough.

With the Cordoba defense surrounding him, Pedro showed good awareness to pick out the unmarked David Villa on the left, who had ample time and space to square to the equally unmarked Messi for a tap-in from a few yards out.

The hosts thought they had equalized within minutes of the restart, but after Fede’s excellent cross was turned home by Vincenzo Renella, the linesman flagged for a narrow offside to chalk off the effort.

The home side saw another opportunity go begging two minutes into the second half, as Carlos Caballero took aim from the edge of the area, only to see Pinto make the save at his post.
The attacking momentum displayed by Cordoba in the first half was nowhere to be found, as Barca was able to control possession and play through the middle in its usual manner.
With 20 minutes to go, Messi seemed set to put the match beyond doubt after latching onto a brilliant through pass from Gerard Pique, but after being put in the clear, could not beat the onrushing Saizar with his finish.

THE Federal High Court, Abuja Division, Wednesday discharged the order it granted to freeze the properties of the embattled owner of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah.

Last month, the court granted the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) immediate possession of properties belonging to the company and its owner, Ubah. The order freezing the company’s assets was made pursuant to Sections 49 and 50 of AMCON Act.

In discharging the order yesterday, Justice Abdul Kafarati held that AMCON did not have to destroy or kill a going concern simply because it was indebted to it. He upheld the argument of Capitol Oil’s counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), to the effect that the duty of AMCON is to ensure that debtors pay their debt and not to collapse their business.

Justice Kafarati frowned at the method adopted by AMCON in securing the exparte order freezing the accounts. Though the judge could not find any section of the AMCON Act he could rely on to vacate the order, he chose to rely on the inherent jurisdiction of the court and Section 6 (6) of the Constitution.

The three parties struck a deal and waited for the inevitable success to follow once Márquez arrived after the 2010 World Cup. It never did. Márquez's two-and-a-half years with the Red Bulls operated at the crossroads between disaster and farce.

Blame lays at the feet of all involved parties. This partnership may have looked promising at the outset, but it never really took flight. Its best moment probably occurred when the Red Bulls and Márquez reached an agreement to end their association on Thursday.

Márquez justifiably receives most of the scorn, though the situation isn't entirely his fault. He saw an enticing offer on the table and he took it. Most players in his position would have done the same, even though this particular move didn't fit him or his skills as well as some others might have. His displays with Barcelona and his links to the Mexican national team might have even merited the $4.6 million payout he received in 2012, according to MLS Players Union documents, from a commercial perspective.

His performance on the field certainly did not. Márquez showed few signs that he had once thrived in the Champions League. A deft pass here and a wonderfully struck diagonal there isn't enough to warrant the third-highest salary in the league. He flailed in his attempts to play either center back or central midfield and struggled to cope with the physical demands presented by his opponents and the rigorous fixture list.

  124. AKINLADE OLUWAMBE B. YRLL/08/3025 YORUBA .SOCCER NEWS:Early on Thursday morning, as normal people were on their way to work and soccer writers were rubbing the haze of yet another late night out of their eyes, news broke that stunned absolutely nobody who had seen a New York Red Bulls game in the past two seasons.

After two-and-a-half seasons, $14 million, two playoff red cards, and one trophy (if you count the Emirates Cup), Major League Soccer and the Red Bulls finally brought an end to the most successful campaign of sabotage in the history of Mexican soccer, and showed Rafael Marquez the door.

"Sabotage?" you ask. Yes, awkwardly forced rhetorical device, sabotage. Threatened by the rise of the United States as a soccer nation, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) dispatched Rafa Marquez to do as much damage from inside the system as possible. The theory may sound crazy, but it's the only answer that makes sense.

Marquez's mission had three objectives. The first was to prevent the largest American population center and most influential media market, New York City, from having a successful soccer team. He did this by systematically destroying team chemistry on and off the field.

In 2011, after some typically damaging poor performances (a regular feature of his campaign of destruction), he went out of his way to insult his Red Bull teammates, and specifically second-year defender and promising U.S. international Tim Ream, saying, "I think I am playing at my maximum level, and doing everything I can. I don’t have, unfortunately, four defenders on my level that can help me out.

"Tim is still a young player with a lot to learn. He still has quite a lot to learn, and, well, he has committed errors that are very infantile and cost us goals.

"I think that this is a team game, and unfortunately, there isn’t an equal level between perhaps (Thierry Henry) and myself and our teammates."

George Lakoff: Michigan's New Corporate Servitude Law

Author, 'The Political Mind,' 'Moral Politics' and 'Don't Think of an Elephant!'

Michigan has just passed a corporate servitude law. It is designed to take away many of the worker rights that unions have conferred throughout their history: the right to a living wage. The right to equal pay for women. The right to deferred payments in the form of pensions. The right to negotiate workplace standards and working conditions. The right to overtime pay. The law is intended to destroy unions, or at least make then ineffective. It says simply that workers do not have to pay union dues to take a job -- even if they get benefits previously negotiated by a union. The deeper truth about unions is they work for all of us. Including businesses: Workers are profit creators.

  127. ORUKOTAN KIKELOMO K.YRL/08/3088.WORLD NEWS U.S. House Democrat says 'fiscal cliff' vote could go into 2013Dec 14 (Reuters) - The failure of Democrats and Republicans to break the impasse over the "fiscal cliff" is raising the possibility of Congress going beyond the year-end deadline to complete the work necessary to avert steep tax hikes and budget cuts that experts fear could push the nation into another recession.
A top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives said if the two sides agreed in principle on a deal but ran out of time to draft and pass the legislation implementing it, Congress could pass a temporary measure and work out the details in the following weeks.
Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the second-ranking House Democrat, raised the overtime possibility in a Fox News interview Thursday, just before President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner met at the White House and failed to break the impasse on the key tax issue holding up movement in the talks.
"We could pass a bill that says we put everything off for 15 days," Hoyer said, and then craft the legislation locking a deal in place.
The "everything" to which Hoyer referred includes income tax rate cuts and other tax provisions that expire on Dec. 31 as well as across-the-board spending reductions, the so-called "sequestration."
The tax rates, lowered temporarily during the administration of former President George W. Bush and extended in 2010, are the major sticking point. Republicans want them kept in place for all taxpayers while Democrats insist they be raised for high earners.
Asked by Fox's Neil Cavuto if failure to even agree in principle would prevent a temporary extension, Hoyer said, "If we don't get an agreement of any type, then, yes, I think you're going to run into a hard-and-fast deadline of December 31, when a lot of things expire."
Obama and Boehner met face to face for about 50 minutes at the White House following yet another day of finger-pointing between Republicans and Democrats.
Aides on both sides called the meeting "frank" and said the lines of communication remained open.

“It was a hard foul. I couldn’t catch my fall,” Anthony said after the Knicks’ 116-107 win in Madison Square Garden. “It was an awkward fall. Right now I’m sore.”

Luckily for the Knicks, Anthony said he was “day-to-day.” “I’ll wake up [Friday morning] and see what happens,” he said. Anthony was rolling, with 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting in 23 minutes. He had 22 points in the first quarter — two shy of the Knicks’ record held by Willis Reed and Allan Houston.

“I was zoned in. I was locked in,” said Anthony, who was playing before the Knicks’ former coach, Mike D’Antoni. “Tonight was one of those games where I had that feeling. I wanted to beat them. I wanted to beat the Lakers, especially protecting our home court. It had nothing to do with Mike.”

The members of the Black List are apparently done with reading for the year as they've named the Top 10 unproductive screenplays for 2012. As per usual, the List covers a wide variety of genres, from found footage horror ("Glimmer") and quirky high school romance ("Me & Earl & the Dying Girl") to Oscar-friendly biography pic ("Seuss," "Rodham") and rousing sports drama ("Draft Day").
