ARGUMENTED LEARNING: WHAT IS IT? HOW CAN IT BE EFFECTIVELY INTEGRATED INTO INSTRUCTION?

15 comments:

  1. ArgÙment learning is an on demand learning technique where the environment adapt to the learner. By providing remediation on demand, learners can gain great understanding of a topic and stimulate discovery and learning.
The ecperience that is based on the present context is how the learners gains his experience instead of memorization. Augumented content can be presented to the learners in different style or ways to suit the learners natural environment with the use of displaying text, video, images, and playing of audio(music or speech).
Most implementation of augumented learning are forms of e-learning in desktop computing environments, learners do receive information through the use of electronics machines,website,e-mail. Augumented learning has also being deployed on mobile, touchscreen devices including tablets.
Some electronics that function as augumented intelligence range from the abacus, calculator, personal computers, and smart phone are also refers to the augumented intelligence. These software provides supplemental information that is related to the context of the user.
    TO INTEGRATE IT INTO INSTRUCTION
Instruction is more or less teaching and learning. We can make use of augumented learning in our teaching and learning. Since it is also a method or ways of deriving information.students should be exposed to this, by making them have access to these software like cell phones, tablet, computer and so on.
This will help learners to gain an enhanced understanding of words or to understand a foreign language too. They understand issues, acquiring relevants information and solve complex issues on their own. Schools should be able to provide softwares in school,so as to help the students to be indepent. Giving students homework that will involve the use of electronics,or computer. By doing all this, augumented learning will be implimented into our instruction.especially when the government add it to education syllabus.

    B. It can be effective in assisting positive attitude change towards suject. It can be used in language laboratories for lstening skills. It can be used in clasroom teaching and learning by bringing video tapes and recording tapes to the classroom to teach particular subject. For example, literature in yoruba, yopu cannot teach any topic in this aspect without using all these.

Augmented learning, What is it? How can it be effectively integrated in to instruction?
Augmented learning is an on-demand learning technique where the environment adapts to to the learner by providing remediation on- demand ,learners can gain understanding of a topic and stimulate discovery and learning.
Technologies incorporating touch screens, voices and interactions have demonstrated the educational potentials that scholars ,teachers, and student are embracing ,instead of focusing on memorization ,the learner experiences an adaptive learning experiences based upon the current context. The augmented context can be dynamically tailored to the learners natural environment by displaying text ,images, video or even playing audio music or speech this additional information is commonly used and shown in a pop up windows for computer based environments. Most implementations of augmented learning are forms of e-learning .In desktop computing environment ,the learner receives supplemental ,contextional information through an on-screen pop-up window tool bar or side bar,as the user navigates a website ,e-mail or document, the learner associates the supplemental information with the key text selected by mouse or other imput devices.
Augmented learning has also been deployed on mobile ,touch screen, devices include tablets.
HOW IT CAN BE EFFECTIVELY INTEGRATED INTO INSTRUCTION
Through the use of computers –It makes the learners to be more exposed to some areas that can not be discussed in the class and more educated
Also it allows the learners to search for relevant information on internet, create their e-mails,the learners associates with key notes text selected by a mouse or other input devices
It makes the learner to participate effectively on the use of electronics
Using of technological touch screen, voice and interaction will make the student to understand what is being thought effectively, using augmented learning ,learner will gain greater understanding of a topic.

Augmented learning is defined as an on-demand learning technique where the learning environment adapts to the needs and inputs from learners. Broadly speaking, "environment" here does not have to be constrained into the physical learning environment such as classroom, but could refer to such learning environment as digital learning environment, through which learners can stimulate discovery and gain greater understanding.
The technologies conventionally used for augmented learning incorporate touchscreens, voice recognition, and interaction, through which the learning contents can be geared toward learner's needs by displaying plain texts, images, audio and video output. For example, in mobile reality system, the annotation may appear on the learner's individual "heads-up display" or through headphones for audio instruction . This system has been shown to improve life-time learning performance.

IT CAN BE INTEGRATED INTO INSTRUCTION IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
Instruction is more or less teaching and learning. We can make use of augumented learning in our teaching and learning. New technology has brought with it new tools for learning, and research has shown that the educational potential of video games resonates with scholars, teachers, and students alike. In Augmented Learning, Eric Klopfer describes the largely untapped potential of mobile learning games—games played on such handheld devices as cell phones, Game Boys, and Sony PSPs—to make a substantial impact on learning. Examining mobile games from both educational and gaming perspectives, Klopfer argues that the strengths of the mobile platform—its portability, context sensitivity, connectivity, and ubiquity—make it ideal for learning games in elementary, secondary, university, and lifelong education.

Klopfer begins by exploring the past and present of education, educational technology, "edutainment," and mobile games, and then offers a series of case studies of mobile educational games that have been developed and implemented in recent years. These games—either participatory (which require interaction with other players) or augmented reality (which augment the real world with virtual information)—can be produced at lower cost than PC or full-size console games. They use social dynamics and real-world contexts to enhance game play, can be integrated into the natural flow of instruction more easily than their big-screen counterparts, and can create compelling educational and engaging environments for learners. They are especially well-suited for helping learners at every level develop twenty-first century skills—including the ability to tackle complex problems and acquire information in "just-in-time" fashion. All of this, Klopfer argues, puts mobile learning games in a unique and powerful position within educational technology.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT IS MOST USEFUL FOR:

*Evaluating programs that have flexible or individualized goals or outcomes. For example, within a program with the general purpose of enhancing children's social skills, some individual children may need to become less aggressive while other shy children may need to become more assertive.

Each child's portfolio asseessment would be geared to his or her individual needs and goals.

*Allowing individuals and programs in the community (those being evaluated) to be involved in their own change and decisions to change.

*Providing information that gives meaningful insight into behavior and related change. Because portfolio assessment emphasizes the process of change or growth, at multiple points in time, it may be easier to see patterns.

*Providing a tool that can ensure communication and accountability to a range of audiences. Participants, their families, funders, and members of the community at large who may not have much sophistication in interpreting statistical data can often appreciate more visual or experiential "evidence" of success.

*Allowing for the possibility of assessing some of the more complex and important aspects of many constructs (rather than just the ones that are easiest to measure).

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT IS NOT AS USEFUL FOR:

*Evaluating programs that have very concrete, uniform goals or purposes. For example, it would be unneccessary to compile a portfolio of individualized "evidence" in a program whose sole purpose is full immunization of all children in a community by the age of five years. The required immunizations are the same, and the evidence is generally clear and straightforward.
*Allowing you to rank participants or programs in a quantitative or standardized way (although evaluators or program staff may be able to make subjective judgements of relative merit).
While portfolios can (and often do) include some standardized test scores along with other kinds of "evidence", this is not the main purpose of the portfolio.

Using portfolios can help you to document the needs and assets of the community of interest. Portfolios can also help you to clarify the identity of your program and allow you to document the "thinking" behind the development of and throughout the program. Ideally, the process of deciding on criteria for the portfolio will flow directly from the program objectives that have been established in designing the program. However, in a new or existing program where the original objectives are not as clearly defined as they need to be, program developers and staff may be able to clarify their own thinking by visualizing what successful outcomes would look like, and what they would accept as "evidence". Thus, thinking about portfolio criteria may contribute to clearer thinking and better definition of program objectives.Critical to any form of assessment is accountability. In the educational arena for example, teachers are accountable to themselves, their students, and the families, the schools and society. The portfolio is an assessment practice that can inform all of these constituents. The process of selecting "evidence" for inclusion in portfolios involves ongoing dialogue and feedback between participants and service providers.

In an attempt to answer this question lets first look at it from the beginning. What is d meaning of augment,It means to make something greater by adding to it to increase and to make come to life.
It also means to enlarge,in size number strienght or extent to make more intense or to improve hence aygmented lerning can be simple defined as another faculty for helping learners to recall present and process information.
Augmented learning tools have been useful for learners to gain an enhanced understanding of word or to do understand a concept better.
Augumented learning: this is an on-demand learning technique where the enveroment adapt to the learning by providing remediation on-demand, learners can have greater understanding of a lession and stimulate discovery and learn better. Technologies incorporating touchscreen, voices and interaction have demostrated the educational potential that scholars, teachers and student are enbracing. Instead of focusing on memorization. The learner experences an adaptive learning experiences based upon the current context the urgument content can be dynamicaly tailored to the learner’s natural environment by displaying text, images, video or even playing audio(music or speech) .
Augmented learning is closely related to augment intelligence and intelligence amplification.
Augmented intelligence provides extra support for autonomous intelligence and has a long history of success.
How augmente learning can be effectively integrated into instruction
By using audio visual medium E.G by blending picture with sound to produce a better knowledge of the student.
Solar system can also be developed as a idea generator.
    By using smartphones
By creating overlays that will trigger based on an image
We can access information from the internet through google and other to suppliment the lessons
Music video can also be used with demonstration music video are recorded as mini-feature films
Images can also be used for better understanding.bills, schats and maps can also be used to make lesson real.
Urgment learning integration into instruction creats pictures of lessons and inprint on the mind of students hence student can visualize as if they are physically in touch with the object of subject of the lesson

    RESPONSE TO THE ASSIGNMENT
    AUGMENTED LEARNING
Augmented learning is a kind of requested learning technique whereby the environment is subjected to learning by providing the remediation demanded.
Learners will have the opportunity of gaining more understanding of a topic and motivate discovering and learning technologies incorporated touch scenes, voice and interaction which demonstrated the educational potential that the scholars, teachers and students will demonstrated instead of focusing on learning by off heart, the learner experiences and adaptive learning experiences based on the current contents.
The augmented issues can dynamically be in line to the learners' natural environment by displaying texts, images or even playing video(music or speech). In addition to this, this information is usually shown in a pop-up window for computer-based environment. Most implementations of augmented learning are forms of e-learning.
In desktop computing environment, the lecturer receives supplemental, contextual information through an on-screen pop-up window toolbar or sidebar. As the user is clicking the supplemental information with the key collected by a mouse or other input device, it can also be delayed on mobile, touch-screen devices including tablets.
HOW IT CAN BE EFFECTIVELY INTEGRATED INTO INSTRUCTION
    1. Palmtop devices like cellphone and portable games & machines can make an impact on learning.
    2. It makes us to understand that it tells a story that is both disarmingly modest and richly ambitious.
    3. Augmented learning is suitable for interactive tools for online learning.
    4. It incorporates social dynamic in real world context.
    5. It facilitates thinking and problem-solving solutions and are easily understood.

Augmented Learning is simply the use of artifacts to modify normal teaching and learning situations in an endeavor to immerse and engage students
    within the learning context.

I am sure many of you here today have augmented a teaching environment with props, computer games, simulations or other forms of multimedia in an attempt as providing your students with a richer learning experience.

From a layman's point of view, Augment is an extra, an additional that provides a hedge over others. According to C.Collins Dictionary, to augment means to make something larger, stronger or more effective by adding something to it. From this definition, it could be deduced that whatever it is that has been added to that individual or thing has produced increase, strength and enlargement.
Wikipedia defines Augument as"an attempt to persuade someone of something by giving reasons or evidence for a particular conclusion. I wish to draw attention to the word "evidence" in this definition. evidences are proofs which are usually visual or visible. Visuals aid learning, precludes memorization, rote learning and classical conditioning but rather, enhances, enables and encourage information to "stick" and last in student's memory. We can now go further to consider what augumented learning is.
Augumented Learning according to Wikipedia the Free Encyclopedia, is an on-demand learning technique where the environment adapts or adjusts to learner by providing remediation for a fee. Learners can gain greater understanding, stimulate discovery and learning. We can infer that the children of the affluent will benefit from augumented learning than children of the poor who barely manage their resources to acquire education.
Ways by which Augumented Learning could be Integrated into Instruction:
    1. Handheld devices like cell phones and portable game machines can make an impact on learning.
    2. By incorporating social dynamics in a real-world context, e.g. learning games can create an enabling environment for learners.
    3. Integration can also be by use of e-learning implements during instruction dissemination in classrooms.
    4. extending the hours of learning for such remediation to include all and sundry thus making provision for children from poor background to participate.

AUGUMENTED LEARNING is one of the learning method or techniques, which is used in passing out instruction. augumented learning can be defined as an on-demand learning techniques where the learning environment adapt to the needs and input from learners. environment here doesn't have to be limited into the physical learning environment like lecture room but could be refer to as digital learning environment through which learners can be stimulated, to discover and gain greater understanding on a topic.
the technologies used for augumented learning includes interaction, voice recognition, touchscreen, which demonstrated the educational potential that scholars, teachers, and students are embracing.through these learning content can be geared towards learners needs by displaying plan text, images audio and video output. these additional information is commonly shown in a pop-up window for computer based environment. this system has been shown to improve life time learning performance.
HOW TO INTEGRATE IT TO INSTRUCTION
augumented learning could be integrated to the instruction through the following ways:
learners should be allowed to make use of desktop computer, that is through the use of e-learning materials, the learners will receive supplemental contextual information through an on-screen, pop-up window, tool bar or side bar.
it could also be integrated through learner experience that is , learners natural environment by displaying text, images, video or even playing audio(music or speech)
mechanical and electronic devices should be allowed lie calculator, personal computer and smart phone in order to improve the level of understanding related to the context of the user.
augumented learning can be made effective in a way that school should move from rote learning concept and an i teach you listening method to a more active and participatory learning method where learners take responsibility like how DET402 has pushed us out to take the responsibility on our own.it makes us to be participants rather than being passive observers.
augumented learning can also be made effective into instruction through the use of textbooks 'alive' which is thus defined as augumented reality books.
